The question of why people use online dating services is considered from the viewpoint of, \"anonymous intimacy in contemporary society,\" referring to the history and the transition to the system of meeting through the media, as well as the characteristics and the possibilities of communications presented by meeting through the media. A meeting system of this kind indicates that these media mediate communications with unspecified other. It is thought that the perceived benefit of communications through this meeting system is in the pleasure of communications with a stranger (not limited to the opposite sex).
